Snow Shoeing at Mt Bachelor

We all know that Mt. Bachelor offers world-class downhill skiing snowboarding. The Cascade Mountains are mere minutes away from Bend and snowshoeing is a yet another family-friendly relaxing alternative offering breathtaking views as you trek through the pristine, freshly powdered trails. Virtually anyone  can enjoy these treks. No lessons required! Mt Edison Butte loop is dog-friendly and a local’s favorite, offering a shelter about 5.5 miles away for a hot cocoa or toddy break.

Cross Country Skiing

Mt. Bachelor boasts 56 km of Nordic trails ranging from easy to double diamonds. Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center offers ski rentals and lesson to learn either skate or classic style skiing. Explore the innumerable sno-parks off Century drive, such as the 30 km of groomed trails at Virginia Meissner Sno-Park. This park connects to the Swampy Lakes Sno-Park, and the Central Oregon Nordic Club maintains several warming huts with fireplaces where you can rest and re-fuel. Wanoga Sno-park is a groomed, dog-friendly trail just past the entrance to Virginia Meissner and milepost 14. 

Winter at Elk Lake Resort

Enjoy a winter escape out at Elk Lake Lodge. Rent a cabin and ski or snowmobile in, or arrange to have a Snow-Burban carry you away to your getaway. Enjoy snowshoeing, snowmobiling, or backcountry skiing in the Cascade Mountains. It is truly a winter wonderland out there!

Winter Sled Dog Rides

Brought to you by the Oregon Trail of Dreams, get bundled up and allow a dog sled team to pull you through the snow-covered Cascades. The rides all depart from the lower Sunrise Lodge parking area, and the sleds can hold up to 4 people or up to 450 lbs.
